Arena UK & Europe’s specialist mass participation division has extended its longstanding relationship with Cancer Research UK, supplying a wide range of event infrastructure to the charity’s Shine Night Walk in London on 23rd September 2017.
14,000 participants took part in the fundraising event, choosing between a full or a half marathon route around the capital city. The night-time walk began at 7.30pm at Southwark Park and participants completed the route in Old Billingsgate in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Arena UK & Europe stored the specialist equipment ahead of this key date in Cancer Research UK’s fundraising calendar, with a 16-strong team entrusted to install over 1,500m of safety barriers and 900m of fencing throughout the London course.
Walkers entered into the Cancer Research UK starting area through a welcome arch and enjoyed a warm-up in front of a start stage and Platinum entertainment stage all built by Arena, flanked with LED screens to stream the charity’s branding and live action from the event.
Arena also constructed a start gantry, through which participants set off to embark on their night walk, three coloured gantries and six information signs throughout the course.
Once the participants had completed their overnight challenge they passed under a finish gantry to have their picture taken by a truss-structure photo board, clad with Cancer Research UK branding.
Steve Shaw, from Arena Seating explained: “Once again, it was a pleasure to supply another of Cancer Research UK’s most anticipated fundraising events of the year, delivering specialist event infrastructure installed by our dedicated mass participation division.
“The install was logistically challenging, working across a number of busy London locations, but our team ensured the event was set up and dismantled in a timely manner to meet tight deadlines, whilst having minimal impact on city-centre traffic and pedestrian movement.”
Nick Wright, Equipment and Suppliers Manager for the Cancer Research UK Events Team, said: “It’s important we have suppliers we can trust and we have worked with Steve Shaw and his team from the beginning on the Shine Night Walks. They understand what we need and we know we can rely on them.
“Their service to us has improved each year and they help our operation run like clockwork. “The Arena team have delivered on every challenge we’ve given them and we know we can rely on them to react to any changes or developments which is crucial on an event with such a tight timeframe.”
This year, Arena UK & Europe has supplied over 420 Cancer Research UK events across the country, including 5K and 10K Race for Life events.
