Harlequin Arena worked with the organisers of the biannual WorldSkills global event held at ADNEC in Abu Dhabi, 14th-19th October 2017.

WorldSkills Competition is the biggest vocational education and skills event in the world. Held every two years, it sees young competitors who represent the best in their age group and industry carrying out tasks to demonstrate technical ability.

Commissioned by creative agency People and working alongside AES, Harlequin Arena supplied essential temporary infrastructure for the opening and closing ceremony as well as the competition itself.

For the opening and closing ceremonies Arena’s team installed a 3,500sqm stage, 8,000 seats using the company’s configurable Clearview system and a 20 x 80m back-of-house structure and a 10m catering structure. A 15m x 50m Majils structure was also delivered, compete with interior fit-out, furniture and toilets. The work was completed in 12 days.

Arena also supplied more than 9,400sqm of competition and back of house space for the competition itself, which was held over five days. This included 410m of branding and was delivered in ten days.

Teams and individuals – most of them under 23 – came from all corners of the globe to show their skills in areas such as catering, electronics, vehicle maintenance, manufacturing and health and beauty.
