Specialist event infrastructure divisions of Arena UK & Europe supplied a range of temporary structures, seating, interiors, furniture and tableware to the 2018 Wimbledon Championships, 2 – 15 July.
Almost half a million tennis fans attended a gloriously sunny Wimbledon fortnight, which culminated with Novak Djokovic claiming his fourth title victory and Angelique Kerber wining her first Wimbledon singles title. Their Wimbledon journey was broadcast, live streamed and shared on social media channels to give a global reach into the hundreds of millions.
Phil Bish and Terry Smith were Arena’s structures and seating project directors, drawing on many years experience and a strong relationship with the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC). Alex Redmond of Spaceworks managed the furniture installations. They helped transform the grounds with temporary facilities ranging from public restaurants, catering outlets and interactive tennis fan-zones to broadcast studios, security facilities, temporary ticket offices and audience seating.
This was a swansong year for the Championship’s much loved VIP Hospitality Village, which Arena has built over the outer clay courts for over four decades, with a new customer experience planned for 2019.
For its final year Arena installed 20 chalets, each of which was customised to suit the requirements of the tenants, which varied from Goldman Sachs to IMG to Land Rover Jaguar.
Arena UK and Europe CEO Grahame Muir comments:
“The traditional look and feel of the chalets has been maintained with the green and white roofs and the hardboard base giving each chalet patio its own garden area. Our capability to create bespoke interiors, combining creativity with event technology, has seen them become much more sophisticated over recent years, to give Wimbledon’s hospitality partners truly memorable experiences. I’m sure they will be remembered fondly.
“The logistics, time-frames and sensitivities around this project require attentive management and relationships that engender confidence, which is a testament to our team in the offices and on site. We are looking forward to supporting the All England Lawn Tennis Club to continue evolving these iconic championships for many years to come.”
In addition to the wide range of Arena structures installed, Arena supplied a 1,056 clearview capacity grandstand giving great views over court 12 and over 2,000 tiered seats in smaller configurations around the outer courts. The interiors team created stunning contemporary hospitality environments, providing over 30,000 items from the company’s extensive ranges of furniture and tableware.
