Arena shows their support for Stephen Lawrence Day

Stephen Lawrence Day celebrates the life and legacy of the late Stephen Lawrence

This year we are proud to be supporting the first national annual Stephen Lawrence Day on 22 April, 2019. Most people are familiar with the story of Stephen Lawrence, the young man who aspired to achieve his career aspiration by becoming an architect but whose life was cut cruelly short at 18 years old when he was murdered in an unprovoked racist attack.

Stephen’s story is both challenging and inspirational, with his short life having had a profound impact on society, including changes to UK law.

The day, which is delivered by the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust working with Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon, is an opportunity for young people and communities to make their voices heard, be the change they want to see, and to help inspire and empower us all to live our best life.

Along with schools, organisations and community groups from across the UK, Arena Group will be getting involved in activities to mark the day, as well as supporting the Trust and London Marathon Charitable events this week with constructing Mile Marker 18 for the Virgin Money London Marathon 2019 which takes place this Sunday, 28 April.

Notoriously, one of the most challenging sections of the race, the Mile Marker is designed to provide an inspirational boost to participants and spectators, as it celebrates the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence, and the impact that his story has had in shaping lives today.

A miniature version will also be previewed at the Virgin Money London Marathon Running Show at London’s ExCeL from 24 to 27 April, 2019.

Find out more about the day by visiting www.stephenlawrence.org.uk or follow @S_LawrenceTrust on Twitter. Use the hashtags #BecauseofStephen and #SLDay to join in with the conversation.
