Following an open tender process, London Stadium has appointed Arena Group to install safety rails for more than 3,000 spectators. The rails will be installed in the South Stand following consultation with the Sport Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) over persistent standing in isolated areas of the upper tier of the stand. The work is a positive move to ensure a safe experience for football spectators at the venue.
West Ham United, the SGSA and the licensing authority, LB Newham have all been consulted and support the move, which will see the new rails installed later this season.
Graham Gilmore, CEO, London Stadium, said “We are pleased to have found an effective, economic solution to safety rails in certain areas in the upper tier of the Stadium. The rails enhancements are designed to improve spectator safety. It is important to note that our policy is that spectators should be able to enjoy watching stadium events while seated.
“This is one of a series of measures to improve the safety and seating configuration at the Stadium. This announcement follows on from the new North and South stands which have been brought closer to the pitch. We look forward to fans returning for the football, rugby, athletics and concerts once Covid19 restrictions allow us to safely do so.”
Terry Smith, Managing Director of Arena Seating said: “Arena Seating have been at the forefront of the temporary and permanent seating sector for nearly 50 years, our expertise in stadia development is unique.
