The Arena Group provided all aspects of temporary Olympic overlay, project management, seating and interior products across nine Olympic and Paralympic venues, between July & September 2012.
The sensitive historical locations of certain venues – encompassing iconic grade 1 listed buildings – required detailed planning and seamless execution. 95% of materials used were returned to hire stock or donated for reuse in the local area.
Arena Group designed and built the 15,000 capacity beach volleyball venue on Horse Guards Parade, and provided infrastructure at the ExCel. Using this patented system, Arena clearview® allows C-Values (the international measurement for sightlines) to be tailored, giving every audience member uninterrupted views of the action.
Arena installed 39,413 seats across five venues, incorporating the clearview® seating system and viewing platforms. The build was completed within the strict 23 day build schedule. All five rooms were reconfigured after the Olympic Games to accommodate the venue plans for the Paralympics sports.
Working closely with Prestige Hospitality, Arena Group provided its new curved roof hospitality structure, Arcus, at the Eton Dorney London 2012 Olympic site, which hosted the Canoe Sprint and Rowing competitions.
Arena Group provided London’s oldest Royal Park with their 120m long double-decker curved roof structure, Arcus. The structure, built within the Greenwich World Heritage Site, was immaculately designed whilst providing guests with sweeping views across the River Thames to St Paul’s Cathedral.
Arena has a longstanding relationship with the All England Lawn Tennis club. They specifically designed and installed grandstand seating, security, hospitality, and media structures across the 42 acre Wimbledon tennis club.
The Arena Group also increased the capacity of North Greenwich Arena, installing 397 temporary branded seats for the Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics, Basketball and Wheelchair Basketball competitions.
The Arena Group successfully assisted with the London 2012’s commitment to public transport, delivering overlay management and LOCOG branded infrastructure for all 18 Olympic Park and Ride venues in and around the Greater London Area.
A total of 3,000 media desks were installed across 31 venues for the Olympic and Paralympics Games, including the Olympic Stadium.
Greg Lawless, Arena Group CEO, said: “This was a once in a lifetime series of events, which attracted the attention of the public and media across the globe. We are very proud to have been a part of London 2012 as a supplier to these venues and help put the UK on the map as one of the world’s leading countries for events”.
