As the PGA Tour descended on Malaysia for the CIMB Classic, Arena Middle East & Asia was contracted to provide extensive temporary event infrastructure at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, 24-27 October 2013.
The CIMB Classic tournament gained official status on the PGA Tour in Southeast Asia for the first time this year, bringing greater significance to the tournament, which attracted interest from the global golfing community. The field of 78 competitors included the likes of international golf professionals Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia, Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson.
Arena Group installed 10,000m2 of temporary event infrastructure. The central feature was two flagship double deck hospitality structures overlooking the 18th and 14th greens. Drawing on Arena Group’s project management skills in delivering the best possible visitor experience, for the first time in Asia the team installed a new innovative VIP Flexi toilet system into the hospitality structure on the 18th green.
After the tournament was delayed with an overnight wait caused by storms on the final day, it took American Ryan Moore just four shots to birdie the 18th hole and defeat Gary Woodland on the first hole of a sudden death playoff.
Paul Berger, CEO Arena Middle East & Asia said: “Spectators were able to enjoy all aspects of the tournament whilst play was delayed, as elsewhere at the golf course we’d constructed the covered tournament entrance, a double deck public catering village, merchandise stands and all back-of-house structures.”
