Numerous 45ft giants moved around the city center over a 4-day period with over 1.3 million people visiting the city over the event period. Liverpool City Council required us to pre-install barriers along the chosen route for each giant on each day, close off road junctions as a rolling road closure was put in and then remover after the event, and redeploying prior to the next day’s giant route.
Over the weekend we deployed 4,000 2.3m Ped barrier using a variety of vehicle sizes and crew shifts all suited in the changing urban environment we were working in. We required multiple teams to ensure that the event was able to flow with the giants effectively walking around the city. With so many people attending we also needed to consider local congestion and working in ‘live’ areas.
“With 1.3 million people visiting the city over this time, naturally a high priority for us was crowd management, both for safety and to minimise disruption to the public.
“We were extremely pleased to have Arena and their efficient crews onboard to coordinate and install the barrier systems, rolling road closures and openings across the four days which is never an easy task, but they managed it all with ease.
“The Giants Spectacular was a huge success and thanks go to all the team at Arena for their expertise and professionalism. This meant that we could focus on the rest of the event details safe in the knowledge that they would get the job done on the traffic side – we have been working with Arena for over ten years and consider them to be a safe pair of hands for our live events. We would not hesitate in using their services again for future Liverpool events.”Susan Lees Liverpool City Council
