Arena Americas worked with Vogue Magazine and the Metropolitan Museum of Art to provide custom tents for the 2018 Met Gala, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”.
The event began on the iconic stairs in front of the Met where guests walked the red carpet under a custom 12.5m clearspan tent that was fit out with custom legs to accommodate the 3m elevation increase of the stairs. A series of nine additional structures were tied to the main structure to house all the red carpet and necessary services. Three custom connections were created to tie the structures to the building.
The tents and red carpet that take residency on the Met steps every Spring have become an iconic symbol of the “First Monday in May” as it is the only public facing portion of the evening. The Met Gala raises the entire operating budget of the Costume Institute in one evening as well as a significant portion of the museum’s overall budget.
